Crop consulting and agronomy advice in India.
Crop consulting for food and beverage brands, agri input companies, large growers, FPOs and farm investors: crop plans, soil and nutrient advice, irrigation, pest management, field trials and regenerative programmes that are measured, not assumed.
Most farm problems in India are not a lack of advice. Farmers hear from input dealers, neighbours and apps every week. What is missing is advice that fits the field: the soil it actually has, the water it can actually get, and a plan someone checks during the season.
Our team has spent 28+ years inside the Indian agri value chain, in input companies, processors and machinery makers. We have run field programmes from the company side, so we know what a brand or an input maker needs from agronomy: practices farmers will adopt, field staff who can support them, and records that stand up when someone asks what changed.
Farm advisory services, field by field.
Crop planning
Crop and variety choice, sowing windows, plant population and a season calendar of operations, built around your market, your buyer's specification and the local climate.
Soil and nutrient plans
Sampling plan, accredited lab testing, and interpretation into a fertiliser and organic-matter plan per field. Repeat tests show whether soil health is moving.
Irrigation and water budgets
Crop water need by stage, source and water quality, a season water budget, and the drip or sprinkler choice for each block. We specify and check the supplier's design.
Integrated pest management
Scouting routines, thresholds for action, cultural and biological controls first, and correct choice and timing of crop protection products when they are needed, with residue limits in mind.
Field trials and demo plots
Trial design with treatments, replicates and a check plot; site selection; supervised application; season-long observations; a trial report with the raw data.
Regenerative programmes
A practice standard for the crop and region, farmer and field-staff training, and baseline and repeat measurement of soil, inputs, water and yield records.
Agronomy consultant for five kinds of client.
| Client | Typical need | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Global food and beverage brands | A sourcing or regenerative programme with Indian farmers | Practice standard, trained field team, farm records and a programme report |
| Agri input companies | Proof that a product works under Indian field conditions | Trial and demo design, supervision, data and an honest trial report |
| Large growers and estates | Better yield, quality or water use on their own land | Crop, nutrient, irrigation and IPM plans with in-season visits |
| FPOs | Advice members can follow and a buyer will trust | Package of practices, farmer training, simple record-keeping |
| Investors with farm projects | A check that the agronomy behind a plan is realistic | Independent review of crop, water and yield assumptions |
Independent crop consulting versus dealer advice.
| Input dealer or company field staff | AgPro crop consulting | |
|---|---|---|
| Paid by | Product sales | You, on an agreed scope |
| Starting point | The product range | Your soil, water, crop and buyer |
| Records | Rarely kept | Written plans, visit notes and data you own |
| Trial results | Often shared selectively | Reported in full, with raw data |

Clear answers before the call.
- A crop consultant, or agronomy consultant, advises on how a crop is grown: which variety and when to sow, how to read a soil test and plan nutrients, how much water the crop needs and how to deliver it, and how to manage pests and diseases. Good crop consulting ends in a written plan the farm team can follow, and in field visits that check whether the plan is working.
- Yes. Brands running sourcing or regenerative programmes in India need agronomy on the ground: a practice standard farmers can follow, field staff trained to support it, and records that show what changed. We design the programme, train the field team, run the farm visits and set up the data collection, so your sustainability and procurement teams get evidence rather than anecdotes.
- Yes. We design trials with proper treatments, replicates and an untreated or farmer-practice check, choose sites, agree the protocol with you, supervise application and record observations through the season. You get a trial report with the raw data. We report what the data shows, including results that do not favour the product.
- No. Soil and water samples go to an accredited laboratory. We plan the sampling (where, how deep, how many cores), collect or supervise collection, and then interpret the results into a nutrient plan for each field or block. The interpretation is where most of the value is.
- We prepare the irrigation plan: crop water need by stage, the water source and its quality, a water budget for the season, and the choice between drip and sprinkler for each block. Detailed hydraulic design and installation are done with an irrigation supplier; we specify what they must deliver and check their design against the crop plan.
- It means agreeing a small set of practices that suit the crop and region (for example cover crops, reduced tillage, residue retention, organic inputs or better water use), training farmers and field staff, and measuring the change with baseline and repeat soil tests and farm records. We do not promise yield or carbon outcomes in advance; we set up the measurement so you can see them.
- We quote on scope after a first call: number of farms or hectares, crops, how many visits a season, and whether trials or data systems are included. Short reviews and season-long programmes are both possible.
